DIVISION A GOVERNOR
Theme: “Together we can achieve victory” Jai Ho!
Div A Gov Hassan A Maghazel, ATMB, OCL
Merhaba!
I was two years old when my family moved from Makkah to Riyadh, owing to my father’s job located at Riyadh.
All my education was at Riyadh. However; our family enjoyed the summer holidays either in Makkah or outside the Kingdom. I have visited many places in the Middle East, Far East, Europe, and United States. Usually I travel with my family and I enjoy all my trips, but the trip I liked the most was when I travelled to the Far East with my Father in the year 1987 (before I got married), we visited Korea, Tepee, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
I am married and am blessed with two boys and two girls. I like travelling and meeting different people with different culture. I have traveled widely.
I have a degree in chemical engineering and 24 years working experience at Saudi Aramco. Currently I am working as a Project engineer at Riyadh Oil Refinery.
I joined Toastmasters in the year 2002. I achieved ATMB and CL. I was a Mentor for many Toastmasters and Clubs. I attended TM meetings at all Clubs in Riyadh and some meetings at the Eastern & Western Provinces. I served as Area Governor for two terms and Assistance Division Governor of marketing once.
My dream is to promote Toastmasters to every house and school in Saudi Arabia.
My Division A theme this year is: “Together we can achieve victory” Jai Ho!

DIVISION A ACTIVITIES
Division A started their year at with Club Officers’ Training on 3rd July 2009. A total of 75 club officers were trained on that day. “It was a well organized and learning session I’ve ever attended”, one of the attendees asserted.
The AGs & DGs training was conducted on 29 July 2009 by veteran toastmaster DTM Syed Abu Zafar. His wealth of wisdom and experience really enriched the Area Governors and Division Governors with their roles.
“Speaker to Trainer” training was conducted on 14 Aug 2009. The participants’ involvement was superb. Each one of the participants enjoyed the session.
District Humorous speech champion TM Mohammad Al Issa visited Riyadh and conducted “Humor with Punch” workshop on 14 January 2010. Many toastmasters and Gaveliers were laughing hard throughout the workshop.
Two judges and chief judges trainings were conducted in this year, one by Area 1&5 one on 9th Oct 2009 and another by Division A on 22 Jan 2010. Most of the toastmasters were trained as judge and chief judge.
Speechcraft:
Area 5 Council of Division A headed by its Governor ACB/ALB John Erick Tapales in cooperation with PICPA Riyadh Toastmasters Club (PRTC), conducted Speechcraft for this year’s candidates of Ginoo at Binibining Pilipinas (Mr. & Ms Philippines) Saudi Arabia – Riyadh 2009, a personality pageant spearheaded by Special Events (S.E.) Productions. The 4-session Speechcraft program started on August 21 and culminated last September 11, 2009 at Al-Taj International School.
"PRTC Conducts Youth Leadership Program"
Coordinator ACB/ALB Ramed Borja, Immediate Area 5 Governor
Contributor: James Edward Taruc, PRTC, VP-PR
An unprecedented number of students (close to 130 young students) of Al Taj International School have registered for a special course in oral communication and leadership sponsored by PICPA Riyadh Toastmasters Club (PRTC). The course which begun last August 27, 2009 and due to overwhelming response from the school, students were grouped into five classes which are headed by one coordinator & assistant coordinator for each class.
Ramed Borja, Youth Leadership Head Coordinator for the club, said the eight-week course is being held at Al Taj International School from 2pm to 4pm. He said the young people of junior high and senior high school age will have the opportunity to become better listeners, thinkers and speakers. They also will obtain practice in conducting a meeting properly.
The Youth Leadership Program was developed by Toastmasters International to help young people of today become the leaders of tomorrow. The program uses materials especially adapted for youth from the regular Toastmasters International public speaking program. More than three million people have benefited from the adult Toastmasters program since it was introduced in 1924.
The program helps the youngsters to learn by doing. There are no grades. Each graduate will receive a completion certificate after the program. Other coordinators include Gulf Champion Speaker Ron Jacobe and notable speakers like Jose Bollozos, Jorge Nathaniel Amores & the Area 5 Governor, John Erick Tapales. The program is being assisted by most of the members of PRTC.
Area 1 and Area 5 conduct training for Judges and Chief Judges
Contest season may be far for the procrastinators. But Division A flagged off the season by conducting training for Judges and Chief Judges on last Friday, 9th October at a private compound. The training for Chief Judges in this Division was being conducted after a gap of few years.
The early start to the season was as much a result of requests from Club Leaders as the initiative of TM Eric John Tapales, Area 5 Governor. For the first time, two areas joined hands to conduct the training that was attended by as many as 58 Toastmasters. In a spirit of camaraderie, Area 1 Governor TM Snehdeep Fulzele supported with logistics - Venue, Refreshments and Marketing while Area 5 took care of training itself.
Those in the know of difficulty in arranging such a mixed gathering of both the genders in Riyadh appreciated the venue and reasonable cost of SR 15 per session.
Area 5 Governor took it upon himself to conduct the training for Judges while a Champion Speaker TM Ramed Borja who represented the Division A in District Contests for Table Topics and International Speeches on couple of occasions conducted the training for Chief Judges. TM Eric John also conducted an impromptu Table Topics Session asking Toastmasters taking training to judge the contest as a real life example. As scheduled, the first session started on the dot at 4.30 pm and the second session also ended on the dot at 8 pm.
Quick Wit Marathon:
Area 5 conducted “Quick Wit Marathon 2009” - A Mega Event in Gulf Toastmasters History on October 30, 2009 – a public speaking workshop by the one and only Advance Toastmaster Gold, Competent Leader RON JACOBE, Middle East Champion Speaker and a Table Topics (impromptu speech) marathon contest. TM Ron shared his secrets on how to receive the questions, digest them, dissect them, and build a strategy to give a winning answer. He shared his numerous techniques in putting order into the gamut of thoughts racing through his mind, and crafting a concise and precise speech.
The “Quick Wit Marathon” subjected contestants to a “barrage” of questions or topics designed to repeatedly challenge a contestants stock knowledge and speaking skills to a level never before experienced in Toastmasters.

AREA 1 GOVERNOR SNEHDEEP SITARAM FULZELE, CC, CL
Vanakam!
As President of Riyadh Toastmasters Club 2008-09, I lived my terrific dreams, capping the great legacy of one of the oldest clubs in the region.
My dreams were seeing my club members in District Contest, achieving President's distinguished status for record 9 times and conducting YLP as well as launching Riyadh Gaveliers Club. Other accomplishments of the club during my tenure were - sending 3 fantastic newsletters to District competition, getting all the three VPM awards (Dr. Smedley, Talk Up Toastmasters and Beat the Clock). These achievements were done without sacrificing the fun and education. The club went on two picnics. Most importantly, the club closed the year with a balance of over SR 20,000, more than double and record at the club, in this recession time.
Theme of my tenure was, 'Live Your Dreams'.
Now I have taken the responsibility of Area 1 in Division A as Area Governor.
