Toastmasters Leadership Institute

TOASTMASTERS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

What is Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI)?

The Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) is the recommended method of club officer training by TMI. Many districts have found success using this format, in which training programs are conducted concurrently as courses. TLI is being implemented in our District 79 for the first time.

How does it work?

Multiple Training modules are conducted at a facility simultaneously in several rooms and is open to all the members who can choose the training they want to attend. The WHQ recommends 10 programs. Additional courses involving other Communication and Leadership aspects in Toastmasters can be incorporated, after approval from TLI Chair.

How does District 79 plan to implement TLI?

The program will be coordinated by the TLI Chairman appointed by the District Governor and LGET who will Plan and Develop the course schedule for the entire District.  Owing to the geographical expanse of our district we will have de-centralized training in individual Divisions / countries depending on proximity.

The TLI Chairman and coordinators will work with the Division Governors and Asst Division Governors-Education and Training, to regulate the TLI courses in Divisions. Hand-picked trainers would be “trained to train” prior to launching TLI, to ensure consistency throughout the District.

What are the Objectives of TLI?

Train Club Officers in Modular format, and provide supplemental training to District Officers.

Supplemental training and educational opportunities to all members.

Encourage educational achievement within clubs

Help the district build clubs, and assist clubs in attracting and keeping members

All modules must be consistent with the Mission of TMI and the District

Who Can Attend?

The main idea behind opting for the TLI format in District 79 is to create more awareness in our members, on the educational program and to raise their potential. All Toastmasters are invited to attend.

Incoming club officers have to attend the club officer training. The session would provide essential training to help officers understand the full responsibilities of their roles and to get them started with effective methods and strategies, not to mention add to club DCP points.

Non-members interested in learning more about Toastmasters, and in improving their leadership skills, are also invited to attend.

Can District funds be used for TLI?

Yes. Using District funds for district / club officers training is appropriate and should be the top priority.  However since District funds cannot be used to train non-officers at TLI (which offers separate leadership and training courses), a nominal charge can be levied for sessions for non-officers.

Can TLI be open to General public to raise funds?

No.  TLI cannot conduct sessions for the General Public—such as personality development programs - to raise funds.

Can districts call their training “College” or “University”?

No. “Toastmasters Leadership Institute” is the recommended name by toastmasters. District may not use the Terms College and university in conjunction with training.

Why should I attend TLI?

To grow and develop your skills, to learn from experienced toastmasters, to network and share ideas with other toastmasters, to share your questions and challenges with other toastmasters, to get the benefit of their experiences...to have fun!

Who facilitates the classes?

Experienced toastmasters who have attended “From speaker to trainer” work-shops, and are willing to share their knowledge and experience. TLI Trainers will be chosen by the TLI Chair and the board.

What is the format of the course?

Interactive mode of training; hands-on exercises where applicable and practical; breakout groups and activities.  This format gives the members the choice to pick and choose the session of their choice.

Do I need to attend the entire program?

Club officer training is necessary and recommended for officers but optional for members. All Members are free to pick elective sessions of their choice, scheduled throughout the day.

How can I contribute to the success of the program?

By participating in the training sessions as trainers and attendees.
